Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. Most of the food you eat is broken down into sugar/glucose and released into your bloodstream. When your blood sugar goes up, it signals your pancreas to release insulin. Diabetes develops when the pancreas stops producing insulin or when the body's insulin isn't properly used.
Insulin
When the body is unable to generate or utilize insulin properly, blood glucose levels rise (known as hyperglycaemia). High glucose levels are linked to long-term harm to the body and the failure of numerous organs and tissues.
Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that serves as a key to allow glucose from our meals to move from the bloodstream into our cells for energy production. In the blood, all carbohydrate meals are broken down into glucose. Insulin aids glucose absorption into cells.
